Product Description

New Fully-multi-coated optics
Fully multi-coated lenses serve the essential purpose of maximising the amount of light passing through a lens, thereby prevent flare and ghosting from interfering with your view. PENTAX applies multiple layers of coatings to every surface of every element and prism in the full Sport Optics line-up. These fully-multi-coated optics assure the maximum light transmission resulting in a clear, crisp view of the world.

BaK4 prisms
Due to its outstanding refractive index, the BaK4 glass prism found in all PENTAX Sport Optics is highly acclaimed for its perfectly round exit pupil and clear, unvignetted image.

Edge-to-edge sharpness is a vital element to comfortable viewing. To achieve this, we utilise aspherical lens elements in our eyepieces. This is a specially shaped lens design that reduces aberration to a minimum.

50cm Macro function
Absolutely Unique and innovative, the macro function of the Papilio allows the user to view objects from a distance of only 50cm! Users can literally immerse themselves in their surroundings rather than watching from a distance. very popular with entomologists and everyone that loves butterflies, spiders, flowers, etc.

Inner Focus Optics Design
This sophisticated optical design is critical to low-maintenance and long-life guarantee. Exposure to airborne particles and moisture is avoided, thereby ensuring that no outside influences can penetrate the housing and disrupt functionality.

The working distance for macro-range enthusiasts starts at just 50 cm. We might have christened it a "magnifying glass"... Even though it is something Different. But no worries … it also ranges to infinity. Thanks to the Bak4 prisms and multi-layer coating of the lenses, The Papilio delivers a clear, brilliant and high-contrast image. Furthermore, the inner focusing ensures long working life and the aspherical lens elements in the eyepiece area achieve outstanding edge sharpness. Nothing that "creeps and flies" Escapes The Papilio "magnifying glass" - butterflies, beetles, spiders, flowers, pollinating bees or any other sort of fascinating insect. The rubber armouring protects the binocular against impacts and at the same time ensures a secure grip.

These compact, inverted porro-prism models feature a durable dual-axis, single body design with synchronised IPD adjustment and full multi-coating for better light transmission. Aspherical lens elements give you edge-to-edge sharpness. They are a perfect “utility” companion for a multitude of applications.

The Papilio is a unique binocular. Of course, it’s a fine and compact companion on nature trails and holidays, but when your interests are flowers, insects, bugs or butterflies the Papilio turns out to be an indispensable instrument. No other binocular combines fine handling and easy viewing with an unsurpassed close focus of only 50cm! You can observe nature in its natural habitat without disturbing or missing the finest detail.

Understanding: Magnification

Understanding magnification, typically denoted by a number followed by an "x" (e.g., 8x42), is essential for choosing binoculars suited to specific activities like birdwatching, hunting, or stargazing.

Higher magnification offers a closer view but may sacrifice field of view and stability, while lower magnification provides a wider field of view and is generally easier to stabilize but sacrifices detailed observation of distant objects

Understanding: Field of View

Field of view refers to the width of the area visible through the binoculars at a specific distance. A wider field of view allows you to observe more of your surroundings, making it ideal for activities like birdwatching or sports events where tracking fast-moving subjects is essential.

Understanding: Objective Lens Diameter

The objective lens diameter determines how much light the binoculars can gather, directly impacting image brightness and clarity, especially in low-light conditions. A larger objective lens diameter results in brighter and clearer images, making it ideal for activities such as stargazing or wildlife observation at dawn or dusk. However, larger objective lenses also mean heavier and bulkier binoculars, which may not be suitable for all users, especially for long periods of use or travel.
