Versatile and Affordable
If your typical “walking-around” kit is an Olympus PEN or OM-D mounted with a standard kit zoom lens or wide-angle prime, the 40-150 is a great affordable option for a versatile two-lens set-up. Indoors or out, this compact and lightweight telephoto zoom will help you capture all your stories.

Movie & Still Compatible Mechanism
One of this lens’s most interesting features is the unique-to-Olympus Movie & Still Compatible mechanism, or MSC. This technology provides amazingly fast – and nearly silent – autofocus operation. You’ll really notice the benefit when you play back your HD video and the only thing you hear is the ambient background noise in the scene you were filming; what you won’t hear is the sound of the lens moving as it changes focus. With MSC and a great focal length range, you can record everything from the big game to vacation footage with ease.

Flexibility for multiple uses
Featuring an optimised overall design in a stylish metal look, the compact M.Zuiko Digital ED 40–150mm R (80–300mm) is variable in performance – perfect for close-up portraits or long distant scenes, indoors or outdoors. So you can react flexibly – always travelling with light equipment.

It comes with a unique screw drive mechanism (MSC), perfect for shooting films and taking rapid-fire still shots. Combined with the 14–42mm zoom lens, you have a system at hand which lets you capture any kind of image in a wide photographic zoom range.

The latest generation of the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 40-150 mm f4.0-5.6 R (35mm equivalent focal length: 80-300 mm) features an optimized design in a stylish black body. It's small, lightweight and flexible enough for everything from close-up portraits to long-distance scenes both indoors and outdoors. This high-power zoom is the perfect companion to your standard kit lens, and gets you closer to the action without being burdened by travelling with too much equipment.

Understanding: Aperture

Aperture is the opening in a camera lens that controls how much light enters the camera. It's measured in f-stops like f/2.8 or f/8. Lower f-stop numbers mean wider openings, letting in more light and creating a shallow depth of field (blurry background). Higher f-stop numbers mean smaller openings, letting in less light and creating a larger depth of field (more of the scene in focus). Aperture also affects the quality of out-of-focus areas in the image (bokeh).

Understanding: Lens Types

Different lenses have different purposes to achieve different styles of images, some popular ones include:
Prime Lens: Fixed focal length, sharp images, great for portraits and dark settings.
Zoom Lens: Variable focal length, versatile for different shots and everyday use..
Wide-Angle Lens: Captures wide scenes like landscapes.
Telephoto Lens: Magnifies distant subjects, ideal for sports & wildlife.
Macro Lens: Perfect for close-up photography of small subjects.
Fisheye Lens: Ultra-wide perspective, creates unique images.

Understanding: Lens Mounts

Different camera brands use different lens mounts, which are like connectors that attach lenses to camera bodies. Each mount is specific to a particular brand and camera series. For example, Canon uses the EF and RF mounts, Nikon uses the F mount, Sony uses the E mount for its mirrorless cameras. These mounts dictate which lenses are compatible with which cameras. Some brands offer adapters to use lenses from other systems, but it's essential to ensure compatibility for proper functionality and autofocus performance.

Understanding: Manual and Autofocus

Manual focus and autofocus are two ways to adjust the sharpness of a camera lens. With manual focus, you turn a ring on the lens to bring the subject into focus yourself, giving you full control over what appears sharp in the image. Autofocus, on the other hand, relies on the camera's built-in technology to automatically adjust the focus for you, usually by detecting contrast or phase differences in the scene. Autofocus can be convenient, especially for fast-moving subjects or when you need to capture a quick shot, whereas manual focus allows for precise adjustments and creative control over the final image.
