Extend the performance of your standard kit lens with this worthy addition to your camera bag. Sporting a stylish metal appearance, the second generation of Olympus' medium telephoto lens for its Micro Four Thirds system PEN cameras has arrived in the very impressive M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 40-150mm 1:4.0-5.6 R.

Ideally suited to shooting both stills and movies, this re-sculpted lens expands Olympus' award winning M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED series and brings added versatility to owners of Digital PEN cameras. Both close-up portraits and scenes shot from a distance away are delivered effortlessly with this all-in-one optic, which thanks to the unique miniaturisation properties of the Micro Four Thirds system delivers a 35mm equivalent focal length of 80-300mm.

This re-vamped lens is not just small, it is lightweight and eminently flexible too when it comes to photography and videography, delivering near silent auto focus operation which benefits stereo movie capture by generating low noise.

However quick off the mark your subject is, the high-powered Olympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 40-150mm 1:4.0-5.6 R is quicker, and however far away the action, this zoom brings it that much closer.

Equipped with MSC ('Movie & Still Compatible') technology helping to deliver not only high speed auto focusing but also whisper quiet operation, attaching the Olympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 40-150mm 1:4.0-5.6 R to your PEN camera ensures that better than ever before sound quality is a given when recording High Definition (HD) movie clips in stereo. The otherwise distracting background 'whirr' of lens mechanics has been dampened.

The AF benefits from the internal focusing mechanism used for conventional interchangeable lenses being improved by incorporating a screw drive mechanism instead of gears that cause noise. High precision plastics further ensure its quick, smooth, silent and moreover accurate AF drive. The MSC mechanism is therefore ideal when tracking a moving child or pet and making the most of the world-beating FAST AF (Frequency Acceleration Sensor Technology) deployed by the latest generation PENs, including the E-P3, E-PL3 and E-PM1.

It's as portable as your PEN camera is and amazingly lightweight with it, so you can concentrate on getting great photography and videos rather than fumbling with clunky kit.

Utilising an internal focusing mechanism, high-speed contrast auto focus (AF) is offered, making it perfect for shooting portraits, and, with a broad focal range, subjects in the middle distance too. Closest focusing distance is an impressive 0.9 metres, or 90cm.

A power zoom, this mid range telephoto lens complements the equally improved 3x wide-angle zoom lens (the new M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 14-42mm 1:3.5-5.6 II R) that comes supplied with the latest PEN camera kits.

Producing clear images and superb sharpness the Olympus M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 40-150mm 1:4.0-5.6 R further enhances the high performance of the Olympus Digital PEN Micro Four Thirds system cameras.

The PEN series' built-in compact dust reduction system, in the form of Supersonic Wave Filter (SSWF), adds to the lens' performance by eliminating the particles that can otherwise intrude and attach themselves to the camera's sensor when swapping lenses. The SSWF is a transparent filter located between the camera's shutter and sensor.

Raising the benchmark for compact lenses, the Olympus M ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 40-150mm 1:4.0-5.6 R boasts a lens configuration of 13 lenses in 10 groups, one distortion removing ED element and HR element, plus an angle of view of 30 - 8.2° and a closest focusing distance of 0.9m or 90cm.

The 7 circular aperture diaphragm helps to deliver natural background blurring to provide pictures and video with that professional feel, with a maximum aperture of f/4.0 at the wide end and f/5.6 at the telephoto end.
