Just remove it from the box, insert an eyepiece, and you’re ready to view. To navigate the sky, simply rotate the azimuth axis in the direction of your desired object. It doesn’t get much simpler or more portable than the FirstScope. Its compact design makes the FirstScope Signature Series easy to take along on your next camping trip, picnic, or hike. When not in use, the FirstScope Signature Series: Moon by Robert Reeves will be a stylish decorative fixture on your bookshelf or desk. Explore the Moon: Familiarise yourself with the Moon, our neighbouring world. Robert Reeves’ signature FirstScope comes with a custom wrap that highlights 10 lunar features to explore including Tycho, Plato, and Copernicus. Learn more about the Moon with Robert Reeves’ Lunar Landscape eBook which goes into detail about the sizes of craters, how marias are formed, the natural history of the Moon, and other fascinating tidbits.  About Robert Reeves: Robert Reeves first photographed the Moon in 1959, just as our space program was setting its sights on lunar exploration. Since then, he’s become one of the world’s best lunar imagers and a prolific author on astrophotography. Using Celestron telescopes from his home in Texas, Robert captures more detailed images than professional astronomers could during the heyday of the Apollo missions.

Award-winning Technology The StarSense Explorer 8-inch Dobsonian Telescope makes use of Celestron’s patented and award-winning StarSense Explorer App that can locate faint, deep-sky objects in seconds.  Available for Android and iOS, the app is able to recognise where you are in the world and generate a list of the objects that are currently visible to you. View anything from planets, nebulae, galaxies, star clusters and double stars.  City and Dark Sky Ready Constructed with an advanced enough optical structure, the Dobsonian design of this telescope is operational even in light-polluted city locations. See the likes of Jupiter, Saturn and the Orion Nebula from the comfort of your city environment.  Alternatively, take the Explorer to a remote Dark Sky location to view hundreds of fascinating objects. Transporting the Dobsonian is easy thanks to the ergonomic carry handles located at the balance point of the optical tube and the base.  Bright, Dobsonian Telescope The large aperture 8” Newtonian reflector optical tube has a huge light-gathering capability that brings out impressive detail in celestial objects. The entire telescope has been carefully constructed to ensure the height of optical excellence. Every mirrored surface is coated with Celestron’s XLT optical coating, that visibly increases contrast and light, drawing in brighter views. The mirrors within the telescope are made of low-expansion optical glass, which helps to ensure the best images under changing environmental conditions.  High-Quality Altazimuth Base A large telescope design requires a sturdy telescope mount. The StarSense Explorer 8-inch Dobsonian Telescope comes with a high-quality Altazimuth Base that features large-diameter altitude bearings with variable tensioning, Teflon azimuth bearings, and braces on the side panels for extra stability.  Smoothly adjust the height of the telescope while an integrated altitude “brake” system allows you to adjust the tension along the altitude axis. A high-quality 2” Crayford focuser provides smooth and precise movements without focus shifting and features a thumbscrew that locks the sharpest focus. A 2” to 1.25” adapter and a 2” extension tube are also included to allow the use of almost any 1.25” or 2” telescope eyepiece. Dock, Launch, Explore Put down the complex star charts, and leave the computerised mounts at home, the StarSense Explorer makes locating objects quick and easy. Simply dock your phone into the StarSense dock, launch the StarSense Explorer app and accurately locate objects in minutes.  The application shows clear green arrows that guide you as you move your telescope across the night sky. When the object is ready to view in the eyepiece, the bullseye turns green. Then, as you observe through the eyepiece, listen to hundreds of audio descriptions and view detailed information about thousands of objects within the app’s database.  Key Features Large Dobsonian Telescope Bright 8-inch aperture Uses the StarSense Explorer app App locates and guides you to objects No astronomy experience required High-quality altazimuth base Quick to set up Good in light-polluted areas View hundreds of deep sky objects What’s in the box? We got impressive views of a wide range of celestial objects. Galaxies such as M65 & M66 in Leo were wonderful, with strong hints of subtle detail along their spiral discs. The nearby galaxy NGC 3628 also stood out well. Nebulae shone against the background sky. M1, the Crab Nebula, showed varying degrees of mottling and scalloped edges – very satisfying indeed. The Orion Nebula, M42-43, was awash with nebulosity and we found we could easily get lost amongst the detail. At its centre, the Trapezium group of stars sparkled and, at the highest magnifications , we spotted several of its fainter mag. +10 stars, even though the atmosphere wasn’t as steady as we would have liked for such high-magnification views. Detail Explosion: Late into the night we selected the globular cluster M13 from the hand-controller. As it swung into the field of view it was breathtaking, with swarms of stars looking like bees around a honey pot. The view was so good that we noticed a dark feature, commonly known as the Propeller, superimposed on one side of the cluster. It was easily the best view of the cluster we’ve ever had….For crystal clear views of deep space, this is hard to beat!”

Our Founder’s Vision, Reimagined for the 21st CenturyIn the 1970s, Celestron’s Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes brought the hobby of astronomy to the masses and established Celestron as the world’s premier telescope maker. Our founder, Tom Johnson, invented Celestron’s proprietary method of producing Schmidt corrector plates for superior views and maximum portability. Johnson believed in creating high-quality optical instruments at an affordable price, and inspired a generation of amateur astronomers. Four decades later, we’ve improved upon this design by adding cutting-edge features, while staying true to our founder’s intent. View the Universe’s Most Impressive Celestial ObjectsThe 6SE’s six-inch primary mirror packs enough light-gathering ability to observe the best that the solar system has to offer: Cassini’s Division in Saturn’s rings, the cloud bands on Jupiter, and geographic features on the surface of the Moon. When it comes to deep sky objects, take your 6SE to a dark-sky site and you’ll see hundreds of pinpoint stars in the Hercules Globular Cluster, the spiral arms of the Whirlpool Galaxy, and more. Revolutionary Single Fork Arm MountWe know the best telescope is the one you will use most often. That’s why Celestron’s engineers created NexStar SE’s unique, patented single fork arm mount. It’s perfectly portable and makes setup quick and easy. What’s more, the NexStar SE breaks down into several lightweight and compact pieces, making it easy to transport, even in small vehicles. You’ll have no problem getting the NexStar SE to your favorite observing site, or setting it up quickly in your backyard. Of course, it’s what’s inside the mount that really counts. Sturdy construction from high-quality components give NexStar SE the pointing and tracking accuracy needed to observe and follow your favorite targets with push-button ease. Use the included NexStar+ hand control to locate over 40,000 celestial objects, or take a Sky Tour and let your telescope show you the best objects currently visible. Aligning your telescope is simple and painless, too, thanks to SkyAlign. This process makes alignment as easy as 1-2-3: just center three bright objects in your eyepiece and press ALIGN. For even easier alignment, attach our StarSense AutoAlign and your NexStar SE aligns itself! Advanced Features Let the NexStar SE Grow with YouThe NexStar SE is compatible with all the high-tech accessories advanced users love. Provide GPS coordinates to your telescope with SkySync, or add automatic alignment functionality with StarSense AutoAlign. For planetary imaging, pair your NexStar 6SE with one of our Skyris cameras.
