This remarkably portable telescope is an excellent choice for city-dwellers or dark sky locators. Award-winning Technology The StarSense Explorer 8-inch Dobsonian Telescope makes use of Celestron’s patented and award-winning StarSense Explorer App that can locate faint, deep-sky objects in seconds.  Available for Android and iOS, the app is able to recognise where you are in the world and generate a list of the objects that are currently visible to you. View anything from planets, nebulae, galaxies, star clusters and double stars.  City and Dark Sky Ready Constructed with an advanced enough optical structure, the Dobsonian design of this telescope is operational even in light-polluted city locations. See the likes of Jupiter, Saturn and the Orion Nebula from the comfort of your city environment.  Alternatively, take the Explorer to a remote Dark Sky location to view hundreds of fascinating objects. Transporting the Dobsonian is easy thanks to the ergonomic carry handles located at the balance point of the optical tube and the base.  Bright, Dobsonian Telescope The large aperture 8” Newtonian reflector optical tube has a huge light-gathering capability that brings out impressive detail in celestial objects. The entire telescope has been carefully constructed to ensure the height of optical excellence. Every mirrored surface is coated with Celestron’s XLT optical coating, that visibly increases contrast and light, drawing in brighter views. The mirrors within the telescope are made of low-expansion optical glass, which helps to ensure the best images under changing environmental conditions.  High-Quality Altazimuth Base A large telescope design requires a sturdy telescope mount. The StarSense Explorer 8-inch Dobsonian Telescope comes with a high-quality Altazimuth Base that features large-diameter altitude bearings with variable tensioning, Teflon azimuth bearings, and braces on the side panels for extra stability.  Smoothly adjust the height of the telescope while an integrated altitude “brake” system allows you to adjust the tension along the altitude axis. Pan the telescope using the ergonomic grip that allows you to precisely point the telescope without introducing heat from your hands into the optical system.  Accessories Included Included with the telescope are all the accessories you need to get started. A high-quality 2” Crayford focuser provides smooth and precise movements without focus shifting and features a thumbscrew that locks the sharpest focus. A 2” to 1.25” adapter and a 2” extension tube are also included to allow the use of almost any 1.25” or 2” telescope eyepiece. Dock, Launch, Explore Put down the complex star charts, and leave the computerised mounts at home, the StarSense Explorer makes locating objects quick and easy. Simply dock your phone into the StarSense dock, launch the StarSense Explorer app and accurately locate objects in minutes.  The application shows clear green arrows that guide you as you move your telescope across the night sky. When the object is ready to view in the eyepiece, the bullseye turns green. Then, as you observe through the eyepiece, listen to hundreds of audio descriptions and view detailed information about thousands of objects within the app’s database.  Key Features Large Dobsonian Telescope Bright 8-inch aperture Uses the StarSense Explorer app App locates and guides you to objects No astronomy experience required High-quality altazimuth base Quick to set up Good in light-polluted areas View hundreds of deep sky objects What’s in the box? • Celestron 51630 Star Pointer Telescope Finderscope Red Dot Finder StarPointer

Celestron Celestron 51630 Star Pointer Telescope Finderscope Red Dot Finder StarPointer

The StarPointer Finderscope adds “point and look” functionality to any telescope! This red dot finder keeps the sky right-side up, matching what you see with your unaided eyesThe adjustable red dot is bright enough to see day or nightAttaches to just about any telescope thanks to the small footprint, even works great with astronomical binoculars and spotting scopesIncludes mounting base and a long-lasting CR2032 3V battery The Celestron StarPointer Finderscope is the way to go if you want the easiest way possible to locate an object and centre it in your eyepiece.A red dot finder, unlike an optical finder, has 1x magnification, displays a super wide field of view, and keeps the sky right side up and left-to-right correct, matching what you see with your unaided eyes. An LED creates a red dot, superimposed on a viewing screen, so you simply point the StarPointer to the area or object you wish to observe, look through your eyepiece, and if properly aligned, the area in and around the place you pointed the red dot will be centred in the field of view.If you like the idea of having some magnification, try installing both a red dot and an optical finder on your telescope. Schmidt-Cassegrain and EdgeHD telescopes have multiple mounting bracket holes so you can get the best of both worlds. Just make sure to align both of them correctly, and you’ll get the best use out of each of your finders. How to Align the StarPointer FinderscopeThe first time you use your finder, you need to align it. This one-time setup procedure should be done during the day. Take the telescope outside and find an easily recognisable object, such as a streetlight, car license plate, or tall tree. The object should be as far away as possible, but at least a quarter mile away. Move the telescope left and right or up and down so that it is roughly pointing at the object. Look through the telescope using your low-power eyepiece and move the telescope until the object you chose lies in the centre of the view. Once the object is centred in your eyepiece, turn on the red dot. With your head positioned about a foot behind the finder, look through the round lens of the finder and locate the red dot. Without moving the telescope, use the two adjustment knobs located on the side and underneath the finder. One controls the left-right motion of the dot. The other controls the up-down motion of the dot. Adjust both of these until the red dot appears over the same object you are observing in the eyepiece.Your finder is now aligned and should not require realignment unless it is bumped or dropped. You can even take the finder off the telescope and reattach it while preserving alignment. For full specifications click Here

It also includes a 2” to 1.25” adapter and a 2” extension tube, so you can use virtually any 1.25” or 2” telescope eyepiece with your StarSense Explorer Dobsonian. The focuser also features a thumbscrew so you can lock in the sharpest focus.Perfect for the City or Dark Sky SitesEven if you live in a light-polluted city location, the Celestron StarSense Explorer 10” Dobsonian is advanced enough to easily pick out Jupiter, Saturn, open star clusters like the Pleiades, double stars like Alberio, the Orion Nebula, Andromeda Galaxy, and more of the best and brightest celestial objects.Transporting your StarSense Explorer Dobsonian is easy thanks to the ergonomic carry handles located at the balance point of the tube and base. Dust covers are also included for the front of the tube and the focuser.Smartphone CompatibilityCelestron StarSense Explorer works with most modern smartphones, and most devices running Android 7.1.2 or later manufactured since 2016.Patented StarSense Sky Recognition TechnologyStarSense Explorer uses patented technology and your smartphone to determine exactly where the telescope is pointed in the night sky. A Lost in Space Algorithm (LISA), like the ones satellites use in orbit to correctly orient themselves, helps the app match star patterns it detects overhead to its internal database.
