An ND 0.9 filter will reduce the exposure with 3 stops, with the aim to reduce the exposure evenly over the entire image. With an ND Grad filter, you could create a nice transition between a clear sky and a dark terrain. Hard Edge filters are used mainly with larger lenses, while Soft Edge filters are ideal for use with a wide-angle lens.
