Custom designed lensplate for the Canon 100-400 IS 2 lens. One 1/4"-20 screw, and two precise features (a pin-and-block) securely fasten the plate to the lens foot without the need to remove the original Canon foot.
About Balance: We tested this combination with pro-sumer and pro bodies, with and without extenders (although extenders are not typically used on this lens). All combinations balanced well, the only poor combination is with a very back-end-heavy combo like a Canon 1D+2X extender, which is not a typical scenario (wide-open at F11? No thanks). The 100-400 IS2 is a light lens and even fully extended it cannot pair well with a super-back-end heavy camera, there is not enough physical room for extending the lensplate further back without hitting the camera body.
NOTE: Why not a replacement foot? Although we considered and machined a version that replaces the original foot, we found that the pros and cons added up in favour of an add-on plate. The interface for a replacement foot uses a peculiar mounting style with 2 tapered pins and a 5mm threaded screw which is prone to loosening over time. Our simple plate uses our proven 1/4"-20 custom captive screw that can be installed with a standard 5/32" allen key, or even temporarily fixed with a handy coin from your pocket. Easy-on, easy-off.
Made of 6061-T6 aluminium. Hard anodised, tumble deburred finish.
Includes 1/4" and 3/8" mounting holes for adding attachments such as accessory straps or to securely mount to a tripod or ballhead.
