The medium transition between the clear to ND element of the filter is designed to allow you to still have control over elements in an uneven horizon without compromise. Example of use will be if you have buildings or smaller hills on the horizon, and you don’t want the filter to overly effect these elements of your image. The transition from clear to ND on a medium grad is smoother than a Hard GND but less than a Soft GND.
