Professional Video Capabilities
Let's delve into the S5's video capabilities. The Lumix S5 is capable of 4K 60p/50p 4:2:0 10-bit, 4K 30p/25p 4:2:2 10-bit internal recording, as well as 4K 60p/50p 4:2:2 10-bit HDMI output. Additionally, the 4K 30p/25p 4:2:0 8-bit internal recording has no time limitation whatsoever.
The Panasonic S5 can also record HDR video in 4K, providing lifelike reproduction of both light and dark areas of an image, without being over or underexposed. The recorded video is produced with an optimized gamma curve that's compatible with ITU-R BT.2100.
Built for Low-Light
The S5 was designed for superior low-light performance. The camera features Dual Native ISO sensitivity, a technology Panasonic first introduced in their cine camera Varicam lineup. While single native ISO image sensors produce images that generally become noisier as the ISO sensitivity is increased, the use of Dual Native ISO minimizes noise. This is achieved by the image sensor choosing an optimal circuit following the selected sensitivity, before gain processing. By employing this system, Panasonic has been able to allow for a maximum ISO sensitivity of 51200 - the Dual Native ISOs are 640 and 4000. All of this enables you to have complete creative control even when optimal light levels diminish, allowing you to carry less lighting gear and generally save time on set.
Image Stabilization
The S5 features a powerful image stabilization system. Panasonic paid extra attention to this area of the camera, developing a system that uses an algorithm that accurately calculates shake information from not only the gyrosensor but the image sensor and accelerometer sensor as well. This configuration of image stabilization allows for incredibly precise shake detection and compensation, enabling you to use 5-stops slower shutter speeds! When combined, the 5-axis in-body image stabilization and the 2-axis optical image stabilization of Lumix S Series lenses, you'll find that the 5-axis Dual I.S.2 compensates for blur and in turn, allows you to use a 6.5-stop slower shutter speed. What does this all mean? It means that you're able to efficiently shoot in conditions otherwise unavailable to you e.g. confident shake-free telephoto lens use and/or low-light conditions and even one-handed shooting. Of course, this works with both photo and video work, including when shooting in 4K!
Panasonic Lumix S 20-60mm f3.5-5.6 Lens
This compact and lightweight standard zoom lens delivers an ultra-wide 20mm to standard 60mm focal length, which is fantastic for both photography and videography. The lens' wide viewing angle is ideal for indoor shooting with limited space; whereas, the 0.15m close-up capability, with a max magnification of 0.43x, is great for table-top photography. To ensure high-quality video recording, the lens is equipped with a focus-breathing suppressor mechanism.
