HSS Portrait Photography at Aberglasney Gardens — With Krish Nagar
Saturday 18 April 2026
Overview
On Saturday 18th April 2026, Carmarthen Camera Centre Ltd hosted a fantastic High Speed Sync (HSS) portrait photography workshop at the stunning Aberglasney Gardens.
Led by internationally published portrait photographer Krish Nagar, the five-hour session brought together photographers of varying experience levels for a hands-on day focused on mastering creative lighting techniques in outdoor environments.
Set against the beautiful backdrops of the gardens, attendees were guided through a blend of live demonstrations and practical shooting sessions, allowing them to quickly apply new skills in real-world conditions.
A Hands-On Learning Experience
The workshop focused on helping participants gain confidence using High Speed Sync flash in bright daylight—something many photographers find challenging.
Krish delivered clear, concise demonstrations before giving attendees plenty of time to shoot, experiment, and refine their technique with expert guidance throughout the day.
With access to two professional models, participants were able to work through a variety of portrait scenarios across different garden locations, making the most of both natural light and controlled flash setups.
What Participants Learned
Throughout the session, attendees developed a strong understanding of:
-
How High Speed Sync works and when to use it effectively
-
Balancing flash with ambient light in outdoor settings
-
Creating dramatic, professional-looking portraits in bright conditions
-
Adapting light using modifiers for different styles and moods
-
Practical workflows for efficient and consistent location portraiture
Equipment & Setup
Carmarthen Camera Centre provided a range of flash units, triggers, and modifiers, giving everyone the opportunity to experiment with different lighting setups.
Participants brought their own cameras and lenses, ensuring they could practise with familiar gear while expanding their technical knowledge.
A Relaxed and Social Atmosphere
The day began with refreshments on arrival, helping to create a welcoming and relaxed environment. After a productive morning session, attendees took a break for lunch—many making use of the on-site café—before heading back out for more shooting in the afternoon.
